Honestly, I feel kind of bad for Wes with all of these Yelpers raving about him. I mean...imagine the pressure of having to perform every time someone walks through your door because your reputation preceded you! ...And yet he manages to do it, because here I am, another satisfied customer, singing his praises on Yelp.
I am one of those clients who thinks they are low maintenance but is really a pain in the a**. I say this with humor but it's true. I am especially particular about my blonde hair (which is in the blonde family naturally but not as light as I currently wear it.) I do NOT want it to look streaky, chunky, ashy, brassy or gold -- all of which has happened over the years during various botched color jobs. I have also had a variety of hair cuts over the years so I'm not afraid to experiment, but I am vocal about what I want in the moment -- or more importantly, what I do NOT want.
Because I've moved around a lot, I've also had to try out a LOT of hairdressers over the years, and every time I'd go somewhere new it was always the same: the stylist thought they knew best, so they only half-listened to me, inevitably did what they wanted anyway, and then acted surprised when I was not overjoyed during the "big reveal."
This was not the case at Oh La La. Never have I had a consultation that lasted 45 minutes, just because the stylist wanted to make sure he heard me right. We both worked together to come up with a solution that would get me out of the wackadoo soccer mom bob that my last "stylist" gave me, along with too-bleached-out one-dimensional color. Even though I could tell he wanted me to branch out on my color, I just told him that I wasn't ready for that yet and he LISTENED to me. He compromised between what I know I like and what he thought would be best, and the result was natural, with shine, depth and dimension.
He also reassured me that trying something new was ok, and that's why I walked out with bangs for the first time since 7th grade! (This was an idea I had been toying with for awhile, not just Wes's agenda -- he just provided the right technique for the bangs to frame my face in a flattering way.) I have a flirty new cut that I can't wait to play with.
He provides a comfortable atmosphere and has a great personality that makes the time pass in a snap. His prices are *not* cheap, but as they say, you get what you pay for. I think the best part of my experience was knowing that I'll be back in the future!
I have a hair guy that I've been going to in Tokyo for 10 years. But I live in San Francisco, I need a salon here too. After many sad and horrifying stories, I find Wes. He's good. He's the first stylist that brought me happiness in this city. What a relief.
Then I walk into my Tokyo salon with a 3 months old cut done by Wes. Looking at me (or more accurately, my hair), my Tokyo guy says, "this cut must have been expensive."
I tell him he should have seen it a month ago. He says, "I can imagine how it was, so I don't need to. Who's this San Francisco stylist?"
I tell him about Oh La La. I tell him how small it is, that it is basically a one-man show. That there is an adorable dog who's "managing" the salon, that there are too many cute and tempting sparkly objects on display. That Wes is from Egypt and how much fun it is to talk to him.
Several minutes later, I realize I have made the Tokyo guy jealous. Oops.
That's how good Wes is. Highly recommended.
What can I say about Wes and Oh La La?? One word: FANTASTIC!
I've always been super picky about who cuts my hair, and Wes has earned the top spot. He is so talented and helpful and every person I've seen that has been touched by him always looks great.
I had my first haircut with Wes back in September; an A-line bob that got continuous praise from friends and randoms on the street, and looked great even last week, before I decided I needed a cut. This time, I decided to go for a shorter, sleeker bob, and what do you know? It was absolutely perfect! Wes is truly a talented hair DESIGNER. Go see him, not only will he make you look fabulous, he will crack you up while doing it. When you walk out of Oh La La, you will always feel like a million bucks!
Today I was thinking I should really get my hair trimmed and that I hadn't for a while. And then I remembered why. The last time I got my haircut was at Ooh La La, and it was such a horrific experience that it soured me on salons for over a year.
I don't like to be mean, but I think my experience here warrants the following: Wes was a jerk. And I think that's being nice. I should have known I was in for a disaster when he made me wait for about 20 minutes. Then I get in the chair, and he tells me how I need Rogaine. Then, he insulted the length of my hair. And finally, he hacked off about a foot of my hair, which was FAR more than I'd asked him to and we'd agreed upon. (This is my number one complaint about hairdressers in general -- do they get trained in wanting to cut off long tresses of ladies who like keeping their hair long? Some people don't look good with short hair. You are being paid to DEAL WITH IT.)
At any rate, I had an awful experience. My hair didn't even look good the day I was at the salon. That was a first for me; even if I end up not being wowed, I can take comfort in knowing I look good, at least for a day. Not so at Ooh La La.
Lesson of the day: Never trust a Groupon for a salon. There's a reason they need to slash their prices to get anyone in the door.
Want a make over? Go see Wes!
I had very long, thick, curly and FRIZZY hair. I rarely wore my hair down and either tied it back or in a bun. I went to see Wes to cut my hair...I was thinking 2 inches but then Wes tempted me by saying, "Do you want to try something new?" I said, "Why? Did you get some great ideas while in London?" and he said, "Of course, and I have one for you." Because he had credibility from previous visits (introducing dramatic highlights), I went for it!
I LOVE my new look! It wasn't just a trim but a total makeover!!! My friends didn't recognize me (in a good way).
BTW - Brazilian Wax is recommended here...for those of us who don't enjoy pain, there is topical that is used to numb the sensitive area. ;-)
A little pricey but well worth it, Wes is also an expert with styling! Nobody has come close to his expertise.
I've been coming here for a while now, great and affordable men's haircut! Everyone here is very nice and talented, and they really listen to you when you tell them how you want your hair cut. They're also extremely detail oriented, and make sure that every hair is perfect. I'll continue coming back here as long as they're around!
I am a big fan of Ooh La La Salon and Wes! I've been a customer for over four years and have had a positive experience every time. I go in mainly for highlights and cuts and Wes has never failed me. He is REALLY good with color and his cuts are great too. Wes is a perfectionist and he puts a lot of effort into his Salon. If you're thinking of trying Ooh La La, go, you won't regret it!
Crystal is AMAZING! She was very sweet, personable and professional.
My facial was awesome (she does a lot of massage) and my skin looked great!!I will definitely be back!!!
Finding the right stylist to cut your hair is VERY important. No one knows this better than me, a curly, frizzy-haired girl who has struggled for all of my 27 years because, honestly, I freaking hate spending a lot of time on my hair.
Wes and Ooh La La have been the answers to my prayers.
I started out at Ooh La La with a keratin treatment to fix the frizz, and boy did it ever! My hair was revolutionized over night, as was my life in general because I no longer have to worry about how my hair looks.
More importantly, Wes is awesome. He's sweet and attentive and he really cares about how I'm feeling as he's working. And he gave me wine.
It's obvious that he truly understands different types of hair and different types of people - the cut he gave me was perfectly shaped to my face and highlighted my eyes - not an easy thing to do for a brown-and-brown girl.
Finally, last time I was there I was telling him about a costume party I was going to that evening, and he said "let me do your makeup!" and boy, did he ever. I got so many compliments that night, I looked like I'd gotten it done on a movie set.
I recommend Ooh La La and Wes for haircuts, for straightening, and for makeup, whether to find the perfect everyday look or for that scary/slutty Halloween costume you're planning...
Thanks, Wes!
Went as a first timer, and was very happy with the results.
Went for a very drastic change, and Wes listened to exactly what I wanted. When a week later the color didn't sit exactly right (like I said, went for a major change), I called Wes and he got me in the next day, toned my hair free of charge. I was also given a free spray tan "just for fun" on my first go-round, to match my extra blonde locks. Wes was a doll, professional and listened to exactly what I wanted. Also, he makes one of the best cappucino's I've ever had. Found my new hair spot in SF!
I had one of the best salon experiences I've ever had! From the moment I came into Ooh La La, I was greeted by a super friendly atmosphere and a glass of wine! Wes is amazing! By far one of the best haircuts and color treatments I've ever gotten. He spent like 5 hours on my hair and make up on a Friday evening and he never stopped smiling! Don't be scared he doesn't usually take that long, my hair was just an absolute mess! He worked his magic and I loved everything, the color, the cut, the hairdo, and the make up...weeks later and I'm still loving my hair! I'm going back next weekend for an up-do and make up.
As a side note, I also liked the hair the lady next to me got. It seems like their stylists are very reliable. I also bought some of the mineral makeup they have and it's super light weight. I've been wearing it to work and I've never had to freshen up before going out.
Thank you GroupOn for finding me an esthetician I can now trust with my face! I have been searching the last year for someone new that I would trust to give ma a facial. The woman I had been seeing for a while had stopped offering facials to concentrate more on other services leaving my poor face lonely. I got a GroupOn deal and decided why the hell not. I saw Crystal last week and was quite pleased. I am also an esthetician so I get very critical and tend to analyze my facials instead of enjoying the service when the treatment is not up to my standards. This was the first in a long time that I found myself enjoying the facial. The treatment was done in a room in the back of the salon and yes you can hear some blow drying and a little chitter chatter, but Crystals touch had me instantly tuning that out. I really enjoyed the facial and have already booked my next appointment!
Ok, So Wes fit me when my other colorist at a different salon canceled the day before a month long vacation, and over 1/2 inch of gray everywhere. He had just come back from a trip and came in only to do the books, but he took pity on me. I had a great time hanging out with him, it felt like a long lost friend, but I thought it was a tiny bit to short loved it but shorter than I wanted. It is now over a month and half later and I am still getting compliments. I went to see my family and they said it was the best color and cut I have ever had. I use to go to Sahag in NYC so that is really quite a statement. Anyway, just made another appointment...
I have reviewed Oh La La Salon once before. I received no discounts, no "free-bees" and no perk. I am not personally attached to this company, I simply found great joy in the service I received. For any woman out there, they know that a relationship with a Hairstylist is almost more important than a boyfriend, girlfriend, and in some cases- family member. I will RAVE about Wes and this salon, and YELP can continue to take it down. I find it OUTRAGEOUS that they take down my GLOWING review of his services and treatment. ONCE AGAIN: I needed a hairstlyist, and with ALMOST NO NOTICE he took me in. He was caring, kind, and most over: LISTENED to me. He spent close to three hours coloring my hair, so I did not scream 1998 (highlights/lowlights- big and chunky). He sensed that (well I like to believe he "sensed" it anyway) that after 15 YEARS of the same cut, I was do- NO-NEEDED a change. I am furious that my previous review has been taken down. If you need a person to tell you what a GREAT job he did, please email me. I WILL CALL YOU MYSELF! Yelp, you are quickly making me very ill, Wes helped me. A new to San Francisco girl- who came to you, looking for a hairstylist, and found Wes. HE IS FAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No free haircut, no perk, just a girl who knows how bad it feels to trust a new person and get butchered. I am sure, this too, will get pulled, but if you read it beforehand, please trust me when I say, Wes has a LIFELONG CLIENT IN ME NOW! If nothing else, go in and talk to him. He WILL tell you the truth, and you will be like me- In a constant state of compliments because AN ARTIST gave me a look I was afraid of, but suits me to a TEE!
Once you enter Oh-la-la salon, you enter the world of Passion, Class, Elegance and Charm. The walls, mirrors, shelves all resemble and create very cozy feeling. It is very unique and stylish!
Olga does my hair all the time. She does the best highlights in the world and creates awesome hair style afterwords. Olga is extremely accurate in everything that she does: should it be just cutting your hair, highlighting the roots or the whole length. You can see it by looking at her that she loves her job and she does everything with perfection. She makes sure that every single hair on your head is in the right place and form.
If you still have any doubts about where you want to go for your next hair cut or hair style or color - check out Oh-La-La and ask for Olga! I am pretty sure that you will find your hair stylist for life!
Wes is the best colorist and stylist I have found in San Francisco, and I have tried many! For some reason blonde hair is hard for people to get right-too brassy/too gold/too dry/no color depth. But I LOVE my hair cut and color and am a loyal oh la la customer!
I am absolutely hooked on Oh-la-la! Wes, the owner, is truly an artist in his profession! No other hair stylist has taken the time & attention with my hair as Wes has. He took me through the consultation process which included coloring/highlighting. I am impressed with his chair-side manner. He genuinely listens to your ideas & blends them with his own expertise of what would work & look best. I have received nothing but compliments on my hair!! I walked out of his salon feeling & looking like a movie star!!! The Salon has a nice ambiance & the jewelry he sells is beautiful!! You won't regret your experience with Wes & the other nice on-site staff & services that are available. Treat yourself........you're worth it & you won't regret it!!!!
I freely admit, I'm a picky customer (being a lawyer and all). When I get my hair highlighted and cut, I want my stylist to work miracles. Well, that's just what Wes does. He's genuinely interested in creating a master piece with hair. He feels and studies your hair before getting started. Then, he meticulously goes to work on his creation. In the meantime, Wes regales you with charming conversation. His salon is chic, there's wine, music and ambiance, a true delight! And, the end product is indeed a work of art. My highlights were golden, the cut beautiful. I get compliments from my husband, colleagues and even strangers in the elevator for weeks following my appointments with Wes. My free advice ... see Wes and treat yourself, feel beautiful and leave the salon with your own personal masterpiece!
Oh my God I love Wes (the owner) and can't say enough good things about this salon!!! I got the most fabulous cut and color of my life. First we had a consultation where Wes listened to what I really wanted and gave me suggestions as to what he thought would look good. I was timid about cutting layers (due to a bad "Rachel"cut back in the 1990s) but am so glad I trusted him. I love the vibrant dimensional blonde color and stylish new cut he gave me. So Glamorous!! I will definetly reccomend Wes to all of my girlfriends.
Finally, I have met the hair stylist of my dreams!! Wes, the owner of Oh La La, is FANTASTIC! Everytime I walk out the door, I feel and look glamorous. My boyfriend begs me to see Wes every weekend to have my hair done because it looks so hot! Wes has magic blow-dryer hands and is great with color. I definitely recommend him!
I had just come back from a weekend of camping so I got a 1 hour detoxifying facial with Erika. She used a paprika face mask and various other great smelling (organic) products on me. It left my skin smooth and glowing. This facial was especially relaxing because during the treatment she performed a lot of face, shoulder, arm and hand massage on me. She focused on lymphatic massage, which really helped with the detox. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep at one point during the treatment.
I went in on a Monday and was able to find street parking immediately. Salon is located on Van Ness between Vallejo and Green. The price was very reasonable, especially compared with those ridiculous spa prices. I will definitely be back.
I recently moved to San Francisco and was frightened at the prospect of having to find another hairstylist. Thankfully, I spent a good hour or so on yelp before picking a place. I picked Oh La La Salon and Natasha cut my hair. I have to say it was the best experience I ever had and I very happy that I choose Oh La La Salon and Natasha as my hairstylist . Best, most edgy haircut ever. I will definitely be returning.
Great neighborhood saloon. My hair looked great after my last few haircuts with Wes. Quick and cool cut for a for a decent price - pretty straight forward - there's not much more I can ask for. If you want to be blown away get a facial with Crystal the Esthetician. She is amazing, I truly love her - best 1 1/2 hours of my week.
Wes, the owner of Ooh La La Salon, is a miracle worker. I have very curly hair and have gone to A LOT of salons that have not been able to give me what I want. I'm so happy I've finally found a salon that is knowledgeable enough to handle my hair! I've had the Keratin Treatment done by Wes twice and I am SO happy! It was great the first time and is even better the second! I now finally have the perfect curl that I've wanted and searched for all my life! He was great in understanding exactly what I wanted out of the treatment and he was very careful to explain to me what I could expect out of it. He did a great job; I would recommend his salon to everyone. In addition to getting the exact hair I've always wanted, the atmosphere of the salon is fantastic. It's relaxing yet fun and Wes is an absolute gem! He has been great about working around my schedule (we were actually in the salon until 11pm one night because I had to work late!) and you can tell that he really cares about his clients. The girls who work there are also super sweet and fun. I actually flew my mom up to SF and made an appointment for her to spend the day with Wes and the girls because I loved the salon so much. Try it out! I'm sure you'll love it!
I absolutely LOVE this SALON. It's so cute and in any easily accessible location which we know can be a huge plus in SF.
I have been transformed by their lovely stylists from a brunette to a blonde bombshell and am always so very pleased with their work and prices. :)
Crystal is fabulous when it comes to waxing, spray tans, and facials! I can't imagine what I would do without her! She's just the best.
I Highly recommend this gem of a salon!
I came in for highlights and Wes not only gave me amazing color with highlights and lowlights, but also a fun new haircut! He was very attentive and asked me questions to get an understanding of what I was looking for. He's also really friendly and funny which makes the time fly by! I've been to several salons in the city since moving here a little over a year ago and I think I've finally found my spot! If you are looking for a laid-back place with great service at a reasonable price then this is it.
Although my skin was looking pretty dull, I was a bit reluctant to submit to a facial. I have had some bad experiences in the past...not this time! I got an oxygen lightening facial with Erika and my skin is looking radiant! I walked in on a Sunday and was delighted to find that not only were they open (Monday's too!), but that I was able to be serviced almost immediately. The facial took about an hour, and was extremely relaxing! Last time I got a facial there was no massage, just squeezing and poking, I was relieved to find that this facial was different. Erika was extremely gentle, knowledgeable about the products and made me feel very relaxed. On top of it all my skin looked great! I will definitely be back.
I purchased An Oh La La Groupon and went in with log, thrashed, dry, frizzy hair. Too much work-related travel for too long, with on-the-run color and over-processing. Wes asked me questions and listened carefully to my 5 absolute I-MUST-HAVE requirements (keep it long, cut blunt bevels with scissors, NO graduated layers with razor, restore my hair's healthiness, cover my super resistant all-over gray with natural rich color). OK excellent. Wes met every one. Period. When we finished talking, he proceeded to give me a beautiful and luxurious cut and color hands-on experience. And the outcome was - PERFECT - it incorporated every single requirement I'd recited, while he also somehow gave me a subtly hip stylish long cut, quite appropriate to my 53 years on this planet, with really beautifully nuanced brunette color, and also somehow in the process restored softness and silkiness to my hair. Wes is an expert. The whole experience was magical and pretty surprising. Best of all, my final look, to my eye, is very classy. I waited two weeks to see what would happen, if the new advantages would persist under my own hand and hair products. And yes totally, my hair remains silky, styling works out easily following Wes' instructions, the look remains very cool, and in the meantime I've received a gazillion compliments. This is a new look for me. I'm thrilled to find Oh La La. I've lived in Paris, France, twice for lengths of time. First, Oh La La feels like a cozy little welcoming salon in a cobblestone street somewhere near the Seine. When in fact you're on Van Ness Ave. in San Francisco. A pleasure. Second, back to being 53 years old. With my new hair, I stepped out of Oh La La to cross the street, lifted my arm in the sunshine to run hand through my luscious hair, and a guy in a white BMW driving through the intersection honked at me. I laughed with joy. That did it, I was permanently sold. Rare. I'll be thrilled to go back under the expertise of professional and perceptive Wes, and look forward to every trip I'll make back to Oh La La. I'm grateful to have found this salon because frankly, I needed to feel beautiful again, didn't know where to turn, and out of the blue, Wes did it.
reat service at a reasonable price then this is it.
Wes is a genius with color! I gave him a few vague thoughts about wanting my hair to be a bit lighter and more summery and he somehow interpreted my meaningless jumble of words into the most beautiful hair color. I am so glad to have found him! A total gem!
I've been going to Wes for about 3 years now for both cuts and color and I could not be happier. I have very fine hair (and not much of it either) but between his talents with the scissors and the products he carries, it looks great!
He's very attentive to what I say I want, but frankly I've gotten to trust him to the point where I often just put myself in his hands and let him suggest ideas for a way to cut my hair or do highlights, and I've never been disappointed. He is happy to entertain requests to change any small thing after the cut (like, a little more off here or there) so that I am 100% satisfied with the outcome.
Not only are the quality of the cut and service great, but Wes is a total doll, the salon is really charming, and the music is super fun. What more could a girl want from a salon?
So I had never heard of this place before yelp, but I was in a bind and needed something within walking distance. I was looking for an up-do for my birthday party later that night and was hoping to have curls gathered and swept to one side. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a nice glass of red wine.
So I had just arrived from getting my makeup done and was already unhappy with it. I wanted a second opinion, so while I waited for Wes to finish up, I asked the makeup artist what she thought after I pointed out the look I was going for. She offered to fix it while I waited, no charge! 10 min. later, my day was already looking up!
Then I got into the chair and Wes went to work on my hair. We curled and pinned, repined and re-curled and it was looking pretty good (not fabulous, but good enough for me to walk out happy with it). Then Wes looked at me and said he wasn't 100% happy with it and asked that if I had enough time to spare, he would redo it until we both absolutely loved it! (man was I glad he said it and not me, haha). 15 more minutes later and I fell in LOVE with my new do.
It was a collaborative process and I really enjoyed how we both talked through it. I didn't have to compromise on what I wanted and I was able to walk out of there feeling/looking great. Wes, you rock!
Oh La La was recommended to me by a friend. So I went for the first time last week for a facial and boy was I ever impressed with Crystal. She was amazing!!! She's very thorough and professional. I haven't been that relaxed in years! I left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. It's like all my stress was "treated" away. My skin looked and felt like it did when I was 16! (I'm 27) It's been over a week since my facial and my skin is still smooth and spotless. I highly recommend Crystal. I know I'll be going back to see her again soon!
Oh la la is the BEST salon!! I have dark brown hair and wanted to lighten it with highlights. I had messed up my hair so many times before by either box dying or going to other places and so was timid when I tried this salon...but Wes was AMAZING! My highlights look so beautiful and natural and I will definitely be coming back!
Its the morning after...and I am still sort of in shock from what happened last night. I think I just left a salon with EXACTLY what I wanted!?!?!? I went to Wes for the first time last night because my friend Melissa has never looked better and it turns out that it is because she started seeing Wes. So I thought...what the heck..."it's not like I have EVER been happy with any of the stylists I have tried in San Francisco...what is the worst that could happen...another bad hair month? I'm pretty used to that..."
I entered Wes's salon and was instantly greeted by a PUPPY (I love puppies), Hot Chocolate (I love chocolate), an adorable shop (I love...you're getting the picture...), and this sweet guy, who knew seemed to really care about his business...not a bad start. We talked about my hair and my bad stylist past for a while and I told him what my dream was for my hairs future (something resembling my natural color as a base, with some highlights). I had to been highlighted to hell and walked in a blonde who shouldn't be. I told him I realized this would probably take years to achieve, and he just listened while (I assume) he began to formulate his plan...
Somehow by the end of this experience, I looked in the mirror and saw what I have been dreaming of since my first highlights. It was my natural color...with a few highlights. Amazing!! It was perfect! It was me! It was everything I had always wanted, but never knew I could get in a hair color. This man is a genius with color! I haven't even tried him for a cut yet...but I can only imagine. I am seriously impressed and definitely won f
I love going to Oh La La Salon because each experience is unique and my hair always looks amazing! I work as a professional fashion model and I ONLY let Wes color my hair. He is energetic, creative, and successful in combining my requests with his innovative techniques. He is very conscious of "healthy" hair, and I feel comfortable knowing that I'm in good hands at the salon. The color is fresh and beautiful and I get compliments not only from strangers b
After having the same hair style of long brown wavey hair for 30+ years (Pretty much my entire life.), I walked into Wes's salon and asked him, "What would you do if you had full reign?" I think he was more excited than I was about the potential of it. He was throwing ideas out at me and even though I had put all of my trust in him he was still very cautious about what I was looking for by asking me questions and if I wanted to look through some hairstyle books for various colors (He later told me that he did not want me to cry or be upset with him if he cut all of my hair off and that he wanted me to be absolutely sure in what I wanted.). I told him he could choose; long, short, and whatever colors he thought would work. 3 1/2 hours later the hair transformation blew my expectations! Wes cut it short and added colors which I never would have thought of even considering, it looked great! I warned him that I was a low maintenance girl no blow drying, hair goop, or any thing of the sort so he gave me a cut that would fit my lifestyle as well. "Low maintenace, chic, and hip" as one of my friends commented on my new look. Besides the amazing transformation the 3 1/2 hours in Wes's adorable salon with his cute dog Tutah (sp?) seemed to go by quickly. It was like hanging out with an old friend. He definitely goes out of his way to make sure you feel comfortable.
PS: I liked the way Wes had styled my hair so a few days later I called him up and left a message asking how he did it. He called me back early the next day and told me to stop by the salon any time and he would show me, so I did. He took time out of his busy schedule between clients to explain and show to me what he didut make-up artists and hair stylists in the fashion industry as well. I recommend Oh La La salon to anyone who is looking for quality hair care and a fun friendly atmosphere!!!
or life. The puppy sat on my lap the whole time, I sipped hot chocolate while my color processed and Wes was as sweet as can be. 5 stars!!! :)
Today..... Wes was magic! My hair was a mess. It was dark brown with red roots and not even close to being my natural color (naturally I am ash blond/brown). I needed some serious color correction! After talking about the different way to do it, we chose to strip the hair instead of highlights. I had bleached my hair platnum for many years and I am familiar with the process. My horrible hair was really dark and I knew that it was going to be a hard to get it back to normal. It took two stripping sessions to get the dark brown out. Wes asked me to show him some pics of the hair color I wanted. At first I wanted my natural color but it's so boring. I ended up pointing to a much lighter blond. Wes was very honest when I showed him the color hair I wanted and said that I wouldn't get that today, it would take some time to get there. We decided to stick with the copper base achieved with the stripper and he added some hightlights to tone down the copper and make it blonder. To finish, he gave me an awesome a-line bob. My color is much lighter and feels very healthy considering all the processing. After 4 hours of Wes' hard work I am on the road to having blond hair once again!
The shop is clean and cozy with great jewels for sale and a cute pooch.
Wes is nice, friendly, professional, knowledgable, and fun to talk to. He is a good listener and is not afraid to tell you no if what you want cannot be achieved. He is an all around good guy and stylist.
WOW, Sheer Genius !!!,I love my haircut .I love my shiny hair with my strategically placed highlights...Wes is the Best !!!
Wes is a fantastic hair stylist. The coloring, which was two tones of red highlights, turned out playful and classy. In addition, Wes dyed the old highlights back to my hair's natural color and that cleaned up the look tremendously. The cut is also probably my favorite look in years. The layers were the perfect length and the bangs flowy and pretty. My hair got raving compliments from coworkers and friends...and strangers. Wes even offered to teach me some styling techniques that I can do at home. I highly recommend this salon. It's a gem.
I LOVE Wes and I LOVE my hair! Finding a new hairdresser when you have curly hair is just dreadful. I went to some hairdressers that were highly rated here. They were all very nice but somehow they didn't cut it (hehe). But Wes, OMG! I would give him all the stars in the world.
I found Wes totally randomly. I was walking home on Van Ness and saw a sign for waxing on the sidewalk. I decided I should probably try waxing again (it's a yearly tryout) and went in. From the outside, you would think the salon is a jewelry shop. You come in and you're pleasantly surprise by the atmosphere. The decor is just fabulous and then there is all this gorgeous jewelry lying around.
Then walks in Wes, the nicest, and friendliest person on the planet. Tell him what I want, he goes in the back to see if Olga (the esthetician) can take me while I drool over all the shiny pieces (yes, I ended up buying a few). He comes back, she's busy, we chat. Then I don't know what came over me. He was so engaging, and the salon just has this feel, and it smells so good, I asked him about cutting my already short curly hair (it was at the middle of my neck).
My hairdresser, David Devico, is in Montreal. I've gotten into the habit of having it cut only when I go back home I love him so much. And he IS that good. Well, shiver me timber, Wes has the same touch. He's used to weirdly textured curly hair (I'm mixed so my hair looks like normal curly hair, but never does what you expect of it).
He gave me this "Vidal Sasoon" cut and you could see his love for hair while he was doing it. And seriously, I don't think I have gotten so many dropped jaw of awe from a haircut. Even people with whom I have a professional relationship (like bosses) couldn't hide the jaw dropping (followed by the turning red). Made me feel very good :D
What does the cut look like? The longest it's at is below my ears getting way short in the back gradually. It also gets gradually shorter towards the front, but not nearly as short as in the back. And it also looks good straight (I hardly ever wear it straight). I LOVE it!
And then there is the jewelery. Wes hands pick every single piece. So pretty, I would buy the whole inventory.
Conclusion: Wes cuts curly hair like a god. 'nough said ;P
PS: I'm a girl. The name might be confusing for you english speakers
Wess started to cut my hair 4 years ago when he was working in a trendy salon at Stanford Mall. When he moved to Union Square, I followed him. Two years ago, when he opened his salon in the Russian Hill, I kept him as my hairdresser despite the long drive. I go to his salon probably once every 3 months (because I like my hair long), but I cannot trust anyone else to give me a short cut that I enjoy and that keeps getting better as my hair grows (you know what I mean).
I can go on and on about the nice decor of his salon Oh La La, the reasonable prices, Wess' hospitality, and his ability to engage the customer in fun conversations... but the bottom line is that he is an excellent, highly talented hairdresser. I wouldn't go to a nicely decorated salon if I didn't like the haircut; would I?
The other day I went to Oh La La to get a haircut. One of my friends recommended it to me. From the moment I walked in I felt special. The staff at the salon is very friendly, the atmosphere is extremely relaxing, and the service is outstanding. The place is extremely beautiful, they even offer you snacks and tea!
My hairstylist Olga was very helpful and attentive to my remarks and concerns. She did a great job highlighting and cutting my hair. What I appreciate in places like that is when they can actually listen to you and (!) understand what you need. Olga was very detail oriented and attentive. She even recommended some products to use on my highlights to keep their original color longer. I just loved my new look! I will definitely go there again!
No other hairstylist will touch my head....ever again! Wes is amazing and entertaining - lethal combo, and I love it!
I always get compliments and would definitely recco this to anyone shopping around for an amazing change.
PS-The jewelry in there is tre chic!! I like trying it all on! =)
If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I changed hair stylists often until I found Wes and followed him around to various salons until he opened Oh La La. The place has elegance, atmosphere and is peaceful, and his hair styling skills are superb -- he is an artist with a positive attitude and high energy. Definitely the best hair professional I have ever had. In 4 years I have never been disappointed.
I spend a lot of time search for GOOD hairstylist, I try so many places and different stylist and nothing work with me. After reading the salon reviews on yelp I decided to go with Natasha, she was really nice. I immediately felt good about my decision. She gave me long layers, fix my bangt and showed me how to style it myself. I think for every body it very important to know how to do their own hair (now I do). I definitely will go back to her and recommend you!!!
I decided on Oh La La Salon based on the many positive Yelp reviews this salon received and I'm so happy I did. Wes did a GREAT job. I walked in feeling tired and bland and left the salon feeling energized and looking stylish. Wes gave me the time I needed, provided the guidance I seek and incorporated my preferences into a cut that makes me look great and feel great. Definitely worth it! Wes also does make-up and did a great job with my eyes. I have "Asian" eyes and this is the first time that I feel like someone did it right. Highly recommended!
I returned to Wes for a trim 4 months later. Wes confidently recommended a shorter style with sweep bangs for me. I was a bit nervous since I've been trying to achieve long hair. A stylist in Venice, Italy had recommended a short style with bangs for me and I listened but was not happy with the cut and I spent two years growing out my bangs. I finally got it to shoulder length and, ouch, it ended up on the floor at Wes's feet! However, I love this new hair do. Wes did great work with it once again. I can even just wash and go. I've received many comments of "oh, this style is much better and you look great!". Thanks Wes!
